Will pressure washing damage my sandstone or render?

Sandstone, render and aged concrete all need different treatment, so we match the method to the surface rather than blasting everything the same way. We identify what you have, test an inconspicuous area first, and tell you honestly what can and can't be restored.

What happens on the day of the clean?

Sandstone is the material the Eastern Suburbs is built from — steps, retaining walls, pool copings, facades, entry paths and heritage terraces. It is also the surface most often ruined by well-intentioned cleaning, because it is soft, porous and completely unforgiving of high pressure.

Why sandstone needs a specialist

Put a pressure wand on sandstone and you don’t clean it, you erode it. The result is a permanent record of every pass: wand stripes, a furred surface texture, and stone that now absorbs water and stains faster than it did before. That damage cannot be reversed — it can only be ground back by a stonemason at considerable cost.

Our approach is chemistry-led. We identify the stone and the staining type, apply the appropriate treatment, allow it to do the work, then lift the residue at a pressure the stone can carry.

What we treat

Sealing is where the value is

Cleaning restores the stone. Sealing keeps it that way. We use breathable impregnating sealers that penetrate rather than coat — critical in coastal Sydney, because a surface film traps salt and moisture inside the stone and causes it to spall and flake from within.

A correctly sealed sandstone surface resists staining, sheds water and salt, and cleans far more easily next time. In Vaucluse, Point Piper, Rose Bay and Dover Heights, where salt exposure is constant, sealing is not a premium extra — it’s the difference between a clean that lasts a season and one that lasts years.
