Sandstone Cleaning Sydney | Low Pressure, No Pitting or Scarring

Sydney sandstone is soft. That is why the city is built from it and why so much of it is ruined by cleaning. High pressure cuts the face off the stone, leaving a pitted, lightened surface and scoured-out mortar joints. It is not reversible — the only remedy is redressing or replacing the stone.

How sandstone should be cleaned

Low pressure, with a treatment that draws the black staining and biological growth out from within the stone rather than blasting the surface off it. It is slower and it looks less dramatic on the day, but the stone comes back to its own colour rather than to a raw, freshly cut face. On heritage work and lime mortar this is the difference between a clean and a repointing bill.

What we clean

Retaining walls and garden walls, steps and stepped paths, sandstone paving and flagging, pool surrounds, heritage facades and window sills, and the capping and coping that takes the most weather.

Sealing

Sealing after cleaning slows reabsorption and makes the next clean easier, particularly on horizontal surfaces and anything under tree canopy. It is optional, and we will tell you where it is worth it and where it is not rather than adding it to every quote.

Where we work

Sandstone cleaning across the Eastern Suburbs, the North Shore and the Northern Beaches — harbourside and heritage properties in particular.

Yes — we're fully insured with $20m public liability cover.

Sandstone, render and aged concrete all need different treatment, so we match the method to the surface rather than blasting everything the same way. We identify what you have, test an inconspicuous area first, and tell you honestly what can and can't be restored.

We cover 106 Sydney suburbs across the Eastern Suburbs, North Shore and Northern Beaches — from the salt-hammered ocean strip to the canopy-shaded North Shore.

Growth is pre-treated so it's killed at the root rather than blasted off the top. Planting, lighting and pool areas are covered before we start, and runoff is controlled on sloped blocks.

We finish every job with a walkthrough — we walk the property with you and address anything you're not happy with on the spot. Nothing is signed off until you've seen every surface yourself, and you receive a photo report on every job.
