Lime mortar blown out from between sandstone blocks, paint stripped from render, soft face brick pitted and scarred. A heritage facade needs the gentlest effective method, never the fastest one.
Paddington and the terrace problem
Much of the Eastern Suburbs sits in heritage conservation areas, and Paddington’s Victorian terraces are the textbook case. Lime mortar, soft brick, layered paint on render and cast-iron lacework — none of it built for modern equipment. These come up beautifully with soft washing and patience, and get wrecked by pressure.
Woollahra, Bellevue Hill and the sandstone belt
Through Woollahra, Bellevue Hill and Vaucluse, sandstone is everywhere — walls, steps, foundations, whole facades. It’s soft, porous and permanently scarred by the wrong approach. We clean it with pH-appropriate products and low pressure, then seal it so it stays cleaner and resists the salt that drifts up from the harbour. Our sandstone cleaning and sealing exists precisely because this stone is so easy to ruin.
