Sandstone Cleaning & Sealing Eastern Suburbs Sydney
More original sandstone survives in the Eastern Suburbs than anywhere else in Sydney. Boundary walls, entry steps, pool coping, terraces and retaining walls, much of it a century old and still doing structural work. It is also the softest surface on most properties and the easiest to permanently ruin.
What goes wrong
Sandstone is porous. It holds moisture, and moisture feeds the black and green growth you see on shaded walls and steps. The instinct is to blast it off. That strips the weathered outer skin of the stone, opens the pores further, and guarantees the growth comes back faster and darker than before. The scarring is permanent.
How we do it
Growth is pre-treated so it is killed at the root and lifts rather than being cut off at the surface. Cleaning is done at a pressure the stone can take. We test an inconspicuous section first, and we tell you honestly what will come back and what will not, because staining from iron, rust runoff or old sealer often will not.
Sealing
Sealing slows reabsorption and makes the next clean easier, but it is not right for every wall and it is not always necessary. We price it separately so it is your decision, not something bundled in.
