Pressure Cleaning Inner West Sydney | Heritage Brick and Sandstone

Inner West housing stock is old, dense and mostly built from materials that high pressure will damage. Victorian terraces with tuckpointed brickwork, sandstone kerbs and foundations, tessellated tile verandahs, and rendered facades that have been painted and repainted for a century. The wrong pressure on any of them is a repair job, not a clean.

What actually needs doing

Front facades carrying road film and traffic grime, tessellated verandah tiles gone dull and slippery, sandstone steps and foundation courses with black staining, rear courtyards and lanes where nothing dries, and shared side paths between semis that grow algae year-round. Brick, sandstone and heritage mortar are soft-washed at low pressure. Concrete paths, lanes and courtyard paving take calibrated high pressure.

Tuckpointing and lime mortar

Nineteenth-century brickwork is laid in lime mortar and often finished with fine tuckpointed lines. High pressure strips both out, and the joints do not go back without a bricklayer. If a quote for a terrace facade does not mention pressure at all, that is the thing to ask about before anyone starts.

Tight access and shared walls

Most of these properties have no side access, a shared wall on both sides, and a rear lane if you are lucky. We work off hose runs and containment rather than needing to park at the door, and we keep runoff out of the neighbour’s courtyard.
