Exterior Cleaning: Eastern Suburbs vs North Shore

  1. 2 min read

Same city, completely different enemies. Salt drives everything east of the harbour; shade and humidity drive everything north of it. Here's how that changes what your home needs.

We clean homes on both sides of the harbour, and the difference is stark enough that we effectively run two playbooks. What attacks a Bondi facade and what attacks a Roseville one are different problems that happen to share a solution category.

East of the harbour: the salt playbook

From Bondi to Maroubra and around the harbour front to Vaucluse, the dominant force is airborne salt. It corrodes metal, hazes glass, feeds mould by holding moisture on surfaces, and — on the east’s abundant sandstone — drives salt attack that physically crumbles stone. Eastern work is about dissolving and flushing: plenty of fresh water, chemistry that lifts salt and kills growth, careful low pressure on the many heritage and sandstone surfaces. Frequency is driven by distance from the water, almost street by street.

North of the harbour: the canopy playbook

From Chatswood up the ridge through Lindfield, Killara and Turramurra, salt barely registers. The enemy is the thing everyone moved there for: tree canopy. Deep shade and high humidity mean algae, mould, moss and lichen colonise every slow-drying surface — south walls, roof valleys, brick fences, shaded driveways. Add year-round leaf litter loading the gutters and tannin stains under every overhanging gum. Northern work is about biocide and dwell time: killing growth at the root so it doesn’t return in a season, and clearing the organic supply lines (gutters, overhanging growth) that feed it.

The lower north shore — Mosman, Cremorne, Kirribilli — gets a blend: harbour salt at the waterline plus establishing canopy behind, often on century-old Federation surfaces that need the gentlest handling of all.

Why this matters when you’re hiring

A contractor who treats every house like a flat suburban brick box will use the same pressure, same chemicals and same schedule everywhere — and one of the two playbooks will be wrong for your home. When you get quotes, ask what they think is on your surfaces and how they’ll treat it. The answer tells you quickly whether they’ve looked at your house or just its square meterage.

Wherever you are — coast side or canopy side — we’ll quote it properly: fixed, written, and specific to what your home is actually fighting.

Yes — we're fully insured with $20m public liability cover.

Sandstone, render and aged concrete all need different treatment, so we match the method to the surface rather than blasting everything the same way. We identify what you have, test an inconspicuous area first, and tell you honestly what can and can't be restored.

We cover 106 Sydney suburbs across the Eastern Suburbs, North Shore and Northern Beaches — from the salt-hammered ocean strip to the canopy-shaded North Shore.

Growth is pre-treated so it's killed at the root rather than blasted off the top. Planting, lighting and pool areas are covered before we start, and runoff is controlled on sloped blocks.

We finish every job with a walkthrough — we walk the property with you and address anything you're not happy with on the spot. Nothing is signed off until you've seen every surface yourself, and you receive a photo report on every job.
