Concrete & Driveway Sealing
Concrete sealing Sydney: driveways, paving and stone sealed after cleaning with the right penetrating or film sealer per surface — so oil, salt and stains stop soaking in.
Cleaning restores a surface. Sealing is what keeps it that way — and on Eastern Suburbs concrete, paving and stone, it’s the difference between a driveway that stays presentable for years and one that’s grey again within a season.
What sealing actually does
Concrete and stone are porous. Every pore is an open channel for oil, leaf tannin, rust, salt and the spores of the black algae that recolonise cleaned surfaces. A quality sealer closes those channels. The practical result: engine drips wipe up instead of soaking in, tannin rinses off instead of staining, algae can’t get the damp foothold it needs, and every future clean is faster, gentler and cheaper.
Near the coast there’s a structural benefit too. Salt drawn into unsealed concrete and stone crystallises inside the pores and slowly breaks the surface apart. Sealed surfaces simply don’t drink it.
Penetrating vs film-forming — the choice that matters
Penetrating (impregnating) sealers soak in and line the pores, leaving the surface looking natural and fully breathable. This is the right choice for almost everything coastal: driveways, natural stone, pavers, pool surrounds. Moisture vapour can still escape, so nothing gets trapped inside the material.
Film-forming sealers sit on top and can add gloss or wet-look colour enhancement. They have their place on the right concrete in the right position — but on soft stone or salt-exposed surfaces a film traps moisture and salt underneath and fails from within, which is why you see flaking, blistering sealed surfaces where the wrong product was used. Choosing correctly per surface is most of this trade.
Slip-rated additives are available for pool surrounds, ramps and stairs where a sealed surface must not become a slick one.
The process
Sealing is only ever done onto a properly prepared surface: cleaned (see our driveway, paver and stone services), stains treated, efflorescence dealt with, and fully dry — sealing over contamination locks it in permanently. Application is weather-planned, since sealers need dry curing time, and edges, garages and gardens are masked and protected.
What we seal
Concrete driveways and paths, exposed aggregate, stamped and coloured concrete, brick and concrete pavers, natural stone (as part of our sandstone and stone service), pool surrounds and garage floors. Most clients seal immediately after a clean — the surface is already prepared, and the combined visit prices better than two separate ones.
