Sandstone Cleaning Northern Beaches | Walls, Steps & Copings Done Safely

Sandstone is everywhere on the Northern Beaches — retaining walls holding up the steep blocks from Seaforth to Palm Beach, front steps, garden walls, pool copings and the odd original facade. It’s also the single easiest surface to ruin. Sandstone is soft and porous, and a pressure washer opens the face, strips the weathered outer skin and leaves it drinking water. The black staining people want gone is biological, and once you’ve opened the stone it comes back faster and darker than before.

What’s included

The growth is treated chemically and killed through, then rinsed at low pressure — the chemistry does the work and the water only carries it away. Salt efflorescence on coastal walls is drawn out rather than sealed under. Mortar joints are worked around carefully because they’re usually softer than the stone. Pool copings and steps get particular attention since that’s where the slip risk sits.

What we won’t do

We won’t blast sandstone, and we won’t seal stone that’s still holding moisture. If a wall needs to dry out for a few weeks before anything else happens, we’ll say so rather than book the work in. Sandstone damage isn’t reversible — that’s why we’re careful about it, and why we’d rather lose a job than do it the fast way.
