The problem
A flight of sandstone steps under tree cover had gone dark with biological growth and leaf tannin, hiding the stone's natural colour and making the treads slippery.
What we did
Biocide applied and left to dwell, soft brushing of each tread, then a low-pressure rinse under 500 psi with a fan nozzle. No acid, no turbo nozzle, mortar joints protected.
The result
The steps returned to their natural warm sandstone with the iron banding visible again, and the surface skin left intact.
